All the details about the admission process

Because we know that application procedures can sometimes be overwhelming and complicated due to the amount of documents and steps that need to be followed, we have gathered all the information you need to know  in order to apply to the West University of Timișoara.

Steps to follow

The first step you have to take is getting your study documents recognized and validated by the Romanian National Centre for the Recognition and Validation of Diplomas (C.N.R.E.D.), part of the Romanian Ministry of Education. 

The procedure for the validation and equivalence of diplomas can be done on your own, by submitting the necessary files directly to the Ministry of Education. or with the help of the International Relations Department, at W.U.T. 

After receiving that certificate, you will be able to register at the faculty of choice, during the summer or autumn admission sessions.

Steps to follow in order to have your previous studies recognized by the Romanian National Centre for the Recognition and Validation of Diplomas

  • Inform yourself at the secretary/ on the website of the faculty where you wish to be admitted, concerning the admission requirements.
  • Submit the file for the recognition of your previous studies from abroad at the Department of International Relations at least one month before the admission in July/September. Even so, the sooner you apply, the better. The list required for the recognition of the studies done abroad is available at the following link.
  • Once you have a Certificate of Recognition, you should prepare the admission file requested by the faculty. 
  • Submit your admission files to the secretary of the faculty.
  • Sit the exams/interviews organized by the faculty.
  • Wait for the results.
  • Confirm your place (if the case) once you know the results.
  • Enroll and submit the original documents requested by the faculty.

Necessary Documents For Applying For the Admission

  • ID card

  • Birth certificate

  • Marriage certificate

    if applicable

  • High school diploma

  • Diploma supplement or partial transcript

  • The Certificate of Recognition

    (Romanian National Centre for the Recognition and Validation of Diplomas) 

  • Medical certificate

    Issued by the family doctor, not older than 90 days from the date of its presentation at the document collection office, certifying whether the candidate is fit to enroll in university studies and, if applicable, the chronic conditions suffered by the candidate.

  • For master programmes

    The bachelor's degree or equivalent and the diploma supplement, or certificate of completion of undergraduate studies and transcript, for candidates graduating from undergraduate studies in the current year.

  • For master programmes

    Certificate certifying completion of another master's university study program (completed or not at the time of submitting the file), in which the funding regime in which each year of studies was completed (with funding from the state budget / with a fee)

Steps in order to apply

  • Choose your study programme.
  • Gather and authenticate your documents.
  • Apply online through our platform: admiterenonue.uvt.ro 
  • The Faculty approves/rejects the admission file.
  • The Department of International Relations sends the approved file to the Ministry of Education for the final answer

! Please be aware that the process usually takes almost 2 months, so you should apply as soon as possible

  • If the Ministry of Education has a positive answer, they will give you The Letter of Acceptance. This has to be taken in original by the legitimate possessor. In case it cannot be taken in person by the legitimate possessor, the Letter of Acceptance can be taken by another person but only on the basis of a Letter of Attorney issued at a notary in Romanian or in a widely spread international language. The candidate can also order a delivery firm to pick up the Letter of Acceptance in original on his / her behalf and in this case, the candidate supports the costs for the services of the delivery firm. 
  • The moment you are in possession of the Letter of Acceptance, you should apply for obtaining the study visa at the responsible institution in your country. 
  • After receiving the study visa, you can present yourself at the enrollment process in person, at the secretary of the faculty where you were admitted at.
  • Once you are enrolled, apply for the residence permit at the Immigration Office in Timișoara.

    Legally certified copies and translations of High School Diploma (and of Bachelor Diploma if you apply for Master studies). The documents are to be authenticated by the responsible authorities in your country

  • Copy and translation of the certificate

    Attesting the promotion of the final high school/ Bachelor examinations. This is needed only if you don’t possess the original Diploma at the moment of application

  • Academic records

    Legally certified copies and translations – for the completed studies (High School and Bachelor). The documents are to be authenticated by the responsible authorities in your country

  • Birth certificate

    Copy and legally certified translation

  • Copy of the passport

    Valid at least 6 months after the date when the Letter of Acceptance to studies is issued

  • Medical certificate

    In a widely spread international language, to prove that you do not suffer from any disease incompatible with the future profession

  • Marriage license

    If necessary

  • Copy of the document attesting the residency abroad

    (If the case)

  • Copy of the certificate attesting the linguistic competences

    (English, French or German)

  • Proof of the 75 euro application fee

Candidates who graduated high-school or a bachelor/master study programme in a European country, other than Romania, must have their study documents recognized and validated by the Romanian National Centre for the Recognition and Validation of Diplomas (C.N.R.E.D.), part of the Romanian Ministry of Education.

AUTHENTICATED DOCUMENTS FOR THE ADMISSION PROCESS: 

It is highly recommended for the admission files to be authenticated by the authorities in the issuer country as follows:

  • The Hague Apostille is requested for diplomas from countries which are parties to the Hague Apostille, issued by the competent authorities in the issuing countries.
  • For countries that are NOT party to the Hague Apostille Convention, the educational documents will be superlegalized or will be accompanied by a Certificate of authenticity issued by the competent authorities of the country of origin;
  • The superlegalization is applied by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the issuing country, the Embassy/Consular Office of Romania in the country concerned and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania or by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the issuing country and its Embassy/Consular Office in Romania and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania

 

For countries where there are no diplomatic missions of Romania or which do not have diplomatic missions in Romania, the study documents will be endorsed by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the issuing country.

  • Exemption from superlegalization is permitted by law, by an international treaty to which Romania is a party or on the basis of reciprocity.

AUTHENTICATED DOCUMENTS FOR THE ENROLMENT PROCESS:

It is mandatory for the candidates to present their study and identification documents from the admission file, in original, along with the Letter of Acceptance (in original) and the passport available with a “study visa” on it on enrollment, at the faculty.

  • The original study documents which are part of the Hague Convention will be stamped by the competent authorities in the issuer country with the Hague Apostille.
  • The original study documents which are NOT part of the Hague Convention will be legalized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the issuer country and by the Embassy/Consulate Office of Romania in the issuer country. 
  • Please make sure that the documents are translated in a widely spread international language and when you are in Romania, preparing for the enrollment process, please make sure to translate them in Romanian and legalize the documents at a public notary if the case.

 

Observations

The candidates for higher education in Arts, Sports and Architecture must pass the skills tests organized by the University, after receiving the Letter of Acceptance for studies. It is mandatory for candidates who have been admitted to West University of Timișoara to enter the country with a study visa and to legitimize their study in Romania for educational/study purposes. They will present the original documents as mentioned at “AUTHENTICATED DOCUMENTS FOR THE ENROLMENT PROCESS”:

The study documents – legally certified copies and translations of High School Diploma (and of Bachelor Diploma if the candidate applies for Master studies); The Master Diploma as well for candidates who want to follow a PhD study programme.The documents are to be authenticated by the responsible authorities in the issuer country. 

Academic records – legally certified copies and translations – for the completed studies (High School and Bachelor) and the analytical curriculum in case of candidates that request equivalence for certain periods of studies

Birth certificate – copy and legally certified translation. The document is to be authenticated by the responsible authorities in the issuer country

Copy of the passport – valid at least 6 months after the date when the Letter of Acceptance to studies is issued

Medical certificate (in a widely spread international language) to prove that the person to be registered for studies does not suffer from infectious incompatible with the future profession

Marriage license – if necessary (to prove the name change)

Copy of the document attesting the residency abroad (if the case)

Every academic year, the West University of Timișoara offers special scholarships for citizens coming from diverse low income countries, in order to assure an academic, international, multicultural and inclusive climate. 

By accessing this scholarship you can benefit from tuition fee waiver and/or full exemption of the dormitory costs within the Students’ Campus and/or a monthly grant/ financial aid from the funds of the university (in the amount of 65 euro/per month).

  • Typified request from the Immigration Office, Timiș
  • Documents needed for crossing the border: Passport (having study visa on it)
  • Letter of acceptance for the studies – only required on the first extension of the right to stay
  • Student Certificate from the Department of International Relations for prolonging the visa. The candidate shall request a document called “Adeverința” from the secretary of the faculty where he/she was enrolled at attesting his/her academic status. Then, the candidate shall bring that paper to the Department of International Relations where a Certificate shall be prepared in this sense for the Immigration Office in 2 working days.
  • Health Certificate from The Student Polyclinic 
  • Proof of accommodation (rental contract or hostel contract in copy and in original)
  • Proof of monetary / maintenance resources (bank account)

The tuition fee shall be paid in full either at the time of application for the study visa or at the time of enrolment at the faculty, when the proof of payment of the tuition fee shall be presented. 

In case the candidate does not obtain the study visa or in case of force majeur situations, the candidates can apply for a refund of the tuition fee.

For acknowledged study programs that are carried out in foreign languages, a test of the respective foreign language must be done. The persons that come from countries where the official language is the language in which the courses are run and the persons who have an internationally acknowledged language certificate will be exempt from this test.

Applying for the study visa is strictly the responsibility of the candidate. A useful website in this sense is the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Romania.

The procedure for the validation and equivalence of diplomas can be done by the candidate, by submitting the necessary files directly to the Ministry of Education and Research, or with the help of the International Relations Department, at W.U.T. The documents that have to be validated by the C.N.R.E.D. can be sent to the International Office, that will submit afterwards the documents to the C.N.R.E.D. After receiving the Certificate for the Recognition of studies, the candidates will be able to register at the faculty of choice, during the summer or autumn admission sessions.

For the students who are Self-fee payers, the costs may vary from 280 lei to 650 lei per month. 

The possibility to apply for accommodation within the Students’ Campus can be done only when the candidates present themselves for the enrollment process (meaning, when they have the Letter of Acceptance in original issued by the Ministry of Education in Research in Romania, the study documents, the study visa and the receipt attesting the payment for Self-fee payers) in person at the secretary of the faculty where they have been admitted at.

In case of lack of rooms available at the moment of your arrival in Timișoara, it is recommended to have a back-up plan by applying for a hotel or a hostel in Timișoara.
